Power Meter - Plug In - Handheld - by Watts Clever
A power meter is a very good tool that measures the power consumption of any appliance or product in your home or workplace. Simply plug the Watts Clever power meter into any standard, 3 slot power point, then plug your appliance or product into it. Displayed on the power meter's LCD screen will then be the power consumption, expressed in kilowatt hours (KWh), of that apppliance/product. By then checking a recent electricity bill for your KWh $ rate/tariff, and plugging that KWh $ value into the power meter you can clearly see onscreen how much that appliance/product is costing you per hour. It is particularly interesting to make the calculation whilst the appliance/product is in 'standby mode'. You'll be surprised (and shocked) to learn how much you can save just by turning completely off those TVs and microwaves and washers and stereos
Handy Hint - For ease of use, from experience we can advise you that the easiest way to operate this power meter is on the end of an extension cord. That way you don't necessarily need to get up/down or in/behind to every appliance/product's powerpoint at the wall
The Watts Clever power meter's instruction manual can be read at http://asksteplight.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/steplight-power-meter-user-manual.pdf

I found this tool extremely helpful. I now know exactly how much energy every appliance or electrical product in my home is using, both when on and when 'off'. The handy tip to use the power meter on the end of an extension lead is good advice too - beats moving around my house on hands and knees
